Our volunteer programs offer easy, short-term access to our research programs, for participants of all types. The first program being made available to volunteers is the Marine Turtle Conservation Program, located on the breathtaking Playa El Rey beach, part of the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. This beach, measuring 14 kilometers, is one of the last undeveloped stretches of coastline along Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast, and is a critical marine turtle nesting site. The Marine Turtle Conservation Program was created to address significant conservation and research needs and to also serve as a vehicle for environmental education. Volunteers participating in this program can choose to work with us for as little as a few days and as long as several months. They will get the opportunity to live right on the beach, in a rustic and beautiful setting, truly experiencing nature and nature conservation first hand. On site will be a full time project coordinator, fully prepared to share extensive knowledge about marine turtle conservation, as well as direct volunteers in their participation in the project. Volunteers make up a critical component of the success of these types of projects and their efforts are highly valued. For a nominal fee the program will provide housing and food, and volunteers will know their contribution goes directly towards maintaining and furthering marine turtle conservation efforts.

The second program Eco Preservation Society will open to volunteers is the Playa El Rey Reforestation Program. This is a long-term reforestation effort with the goal of creating a biological corridor between Manuel Antonio National Park and the Río Savegre River, connecting finally with the Talamanca Mountain Range and its large tracts of conserved forests. Endangered species like the Mono Titi Squirrel Monkey are feeling with increased intensity the loss of habitat and resulting isolation due to agricultural expansion and to a lesser degree tourism development. Here volunteers will be able to participate directly in reforestation efforts while also living at the beautiful Playa El Rey. Initial efforts will consist of removing invasive coconut palms while later efforts will focus on reestablishing native forest species along this stretch of coastline.

As with all of our programs education is a critical component, and volunteers will of course have the chance to work with trained professionals who will take the time to share their knowledge with others.
