Scattering the Ashes of a Loved one Is a Lovely Green Goodbye. But You Need To Check a Few Things First.

green goodbye

It’s difficult. Losing a loved one is never easy.  There’s a whole process to get through, including coming to terms with what has happened and letting your loved ones go. You want to give them a loving, green goodbye, based on their last wishes. Some wish to be buried, while others request cremation

After a cremation, family members and friends often participate in the scattering of ashes.

Here are 4 tips to make sure it goes well.

1.Identify your location

Exactly where will you scatter the ashes? Fortunately, you can spread ashes in many places, and so you have the freedom to give your loved one the send off that you would like and in an area that is convenient for you.

Some of the options that you can consider include scattering the ashes at sea. This is a common practice, and you can opt to do it yourself or get a company to do the process for you.

Alternatively, you can scatter the ashes on private property that you own – this may feel more personal and comforting.

But if you don’t have suitable private property, no problem, as you may also scatter on public land.

2.Get legal information

Scattering ashes may seem like a straightforward thing to do – and it is. Most of the time. But sometimes, there can be legal complications.

It’s often better to do a little research beforehand and be sure of your facts.

Some countries and some US states may require you to get clearance tol allow you to scatter ashes in parks or even in the sea. These rules differ depending on the location, which is why it is important to ask these questions and make sure that everything is okay before proceeding to do anything.

3.Do a ceremony

Just like in a traditional burial service, you can if you wish have a ceremony with your close friends and family where you can honor and remember your loved one the best way you can.

There are no rules or conventional ways of doing this, so it is all up to you to do what you think your loved one would have wanted.

Again, you can do this in any location that you want, provided that you get any necessary clearance to avoid any hiccups.

4.Consider your scattering options

Don’t forget to also decide exactly how you will scatter the ashes. There are many methods.

One of the most common options is by scattering the ashes by hand or through the use of an urn.

Another way is pouring the ashes into an area that has been shallowly dug and covering them up with dirt or soil.

There are many more options to choose from, but the important thing is to select whatever you feel comfortable with for your green goodbye.
