Don’t Forget the Basics – They Help Slow Climate Change Too !  Here Are 5 Ways to Save the Environment

Top 5 Ways to Save the Environment

Modern technology has taken a heavy toll on the environment. Technology is doing a great job bringing comfort in today’s society. The environment, however, is facing all the negative repercussions such as increasing pollution, the loss of energy resources, poisonous air, and unfavorable weather conditions (the climate crisis).

Fortunately, people are becoming more aware of protecting our environment and trying to reduce their carbon footprint. Electronic recycling is one of the best ways to help save the  environment. The following are five ways to save the environment.

1. Recycle and Dispose of E-Waste Properly

Improperly disposed e-waste is becoming more dangerous every day, and this will continue as our e-waste increases. Many large brands like Apple, Samsung, and other companies have started giving options to their customers to recycle old electronics in efforts to mitigate this concern. They even offer money for recycling old devices.

When old electronics are recycled, the expensive parts inside can be reused. As a result, it saves lots of energy and reduces the need for finding new raw materials or manufacturing new parts. You can search online to find local businesses that have electronic recycling programs in your area.

2. Sell Old Electronics

One of the simplest ways of reducing electronic waste is selling or donating your gently used electronics. If you are thinking about selling your electronics, many online companies will accept them and, in return, offer you money. This is a win-win situation for both. An excellent place to sell old electronics is eBay or Amazon. You can also sell unwanted devices by posting ads on online marketplaces and meeting up with potential buyers.

3. Repurpose or Re-evaluate

Ask yourself before upgrading or buying a new electronic device:

  • Do you need this new cellular phone, computer or IPad?
  • Is it more of a need or just a want?
  • Is this new device going to add value to your everyday life or career in any way?

If your answer is no to the above questions, then maybe you should rethink upgrading or

buying a new electronic gadget. You could perhaps repurpose old electronics that cannot be used anymore for their original or intended purpose.

4. Buy Energy Star Certified Electronics and Appliances

A high Energy Star Certified device and appliance will run on less energy, and it greatly reduces your electric bill. Since less energy is required, it also keeps track of energy depletion by avoiding over-utilization. In other words, it helps to save the environment by reducing the energy extraction and consumption. Environmentally friendly electronics and appliances will have the Energy Star logo displayed on them.

5. Store Data Online

Many people today use cloud services that help in reducing environmental impact. When you use a cloud service, you have access to your data from anywhere. There is no need to carry a storage device and run the risk of losing or damaging it. You also get a large amount of cloud storage for free or for minimal cost. Cloud service is convenient, and it reduces the need for new storage devices. It helps reduce carbon footprints and lowers e-waste.
