What is the Climate Impact of YOUR Food? Do You Know?

Do you know what's the climate impact of the food you eat? This clever calculator has helped me to clearly see what I should eat more (and less) of. Try it and see!

This Cool Calculator Shows You Your Climate Impact!

What we eat has an impact on the climate crisis.  We know, for example, that beef has a big (and bad) influence on the climate, especially because of the quantity we eat. But we all eat different things. So that’s why I like this web calculator. It measures the climate impact of food YOU eat. That’s cool!

This online calculator from the BBC lets you choose the foods you eat, and you also specify how often you eat it (because that makes a difference too).

Why I Found This Climate Impact Calculator So Interesting

It’s a really useful calculator, because not only does it tell you the carbon emissions, it also compares similar items.

So, for example, I was delighted to see that wine emits much less carbon than beer (I’m a wine drinker). However, the climate impact of tea is considerably less. (Sigh). And coffee is more. (Sigh. Again).

But the calculator has helped me to see what I should eat more of – and less of. For example, cheese, eggs, beans, peas and nuts have much less of a climate impact than beef, lamb, pork, prawns and fish. So  it’s easy to see where I should concentrate my proteins.

Here’s the Climate Impact Calculator

Below you’ll see a preview of the calculator – you can see it’s really easy to use. If you click on the picture you’ll go straight to the calculator, and I’ve also included a link below.

How Good Is The BBC?

climate impact on the BBCI’ve trusted the BBC for years as a reliable news source. However, in the past I have criticized their coverage of the  climate crisis. They didn’t cover it at all well.

Now however, they seem to be stepping up their coverage, and in fact they have quite a lot of climate coverage planned for 2020 and beyond. I’m delighted!
