You Could be Absorbing More Toxic Chemicals Than You Realize. Here’s How Toxins Affect Your Body.

how toxins affect your body

In today’s world, we are surrounded by toxins. And that’s not good. Toxins affect your body in many ways – they act as a burden to your body and can also affect your mind and mental state.

If you are

  • Feeling tired
  • Lethargic and have no energy
  • Depressed
  • In pain……

…. you may have toxins in your body that are affecting your health.

Your body does a great job of getting rid of toxins – your liver does that every day!

However, there are a lot of toxins around now.  Even the food that you eat and the air that you breathe may contain toxins.

So find out the most common sources of toxins below. Once you know what may be a problem, you can give your body a little help with elimination. Eliminating toxins allows your body to heal.

You want to examine what you eat, where you live and what products you use on a daily basis that are impacting your health. Toxins are elements such as chemicals that act as poisons within your body and create adverse effects and harm.

Toxic Foods

Eating toxic food is one of the greatest contributors to disease in the body. (And it’s something you have control over!).

  • junk food can be toxic. toxins affect your body.Processed foods contain a variety of chemicals and additives. They often have additives such as extra color and flavor (to make them more appealing).
  • Alcoholic drinks are also considered toxic to the body. (Sigh).
  • Foods that are not grown organically may contain pesticide and fungicide residues which can have a detrimental effect on your health.
  • Your water may contain toxins – and that’s a problem when you drink it, but also (to a lesser extent) when you shower, wash dishes and use water generally.

All these toxins can build up in your body and cause inflammation, disease, and allergies.

Avoid processed food as much as possible, and instead eat lots of whole foods, especially fresh fruit and vegetables.  Fresh juices and smoothies are a fun way to get lots of healthy veggies inside you (and they can also help you to lose weight if you need to).

A water filter or water purifier is a good way to remove some toxins. (But don’t buy bottled water – it’s lousy for the environment, ridiculously expensive, and is often filtered tap water).

Toxic Products

Using beauty products that are toxic can also be harmful to your health. Many beauty products contain toxic chemicals including makeup, sunscreen, lotions, perfumes, deodorants, hair products and more. Lipsticks often contain lead.

The skin is the largest organ of your body, so treat it with care!

Try to use natural solutions – and don’t believe the marketing on products! They might say “natural” because they may include a small amount of a natural product. But check the ingredients list – if it’s full of un-pronounceable chemicals, then the product is far from natural!

Cleaning products also contain chemicals and these can leech into the water system.  We also inhale sprays and that’s another way toxins can enter your body. Avoid deodorant sprays, air fresheners and laundry aids.

Instead, choose organic and natural cleaning and personal care products.

Toxic Environment

Breathing clean air is essential for good health. Living in a place with fresh air is ideal.  But it’s not always possible.

Here’s what you can do.

  1. Avoid smoking or vaping because you (and others around you) inhale contaminants.
  2. Air purifiers can help with air quality inside your home, although they can be quite expensive.
  3. Add plants inside as they naturally purify the air – ask your local nursery for advice on the best plants for creating clean air.

How Toxins Affect Your Body

Your body processes toxins through your liver and kidneys. It eliminates them through urine, stools and sweat. It is important to take care of your body and create a body system that is not burdened by toxins.

You can begin with the basics of health by –

  • eliminating as many toxins as possible from your environment
  • drinking lots of clean water
  • keep moving (exercise)
  • doing an occasional detox for even better toxin elimination

Personally, I’m not a fan of long detox plans, but an occasional short and gentle detox can be a good idea.
