Fat Isn’t ALL Bad! These Healthy Fats Are Good For You!

Normally, you want to try to reduce your fat intake – especially if you’re trying to lose weight. But some fats are healthy fats.

Healthy fats (monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats) help to protect your heart and keep your cholesterol in check.

Bad fats, on the other hand … don’t.  Trans fats are found in junk food, crisps or chips, and many snacks.

So let’s look at 5 foods that you can safely eat every day.

NOTE that some of these foods (avocado, for example) are also high in calories, so eat them in moderation if you are watching your weight.

Eggs

Free-range organic whole eggs are as tasty as they are nutritious. Each whole egg contains around 6 grams of protein, which keeps you feeling full. They also contain lots of vitamins and amino acids.

Dark Chocolate

Avocados

This fruit is special; it has more healthy fats in it than it does carbohydrates. You’ll also get vitamins and minerals from avocado, and it’s high in fiber which is good for your digestion, can help reduce inflammation, and helps keep you feeling full.

Nuts

Almonds and walnuts are great choices when you feel “snacky”.

Almonds are filling and enjoyably crunchy – they can help you to avoid choosing an unhealthy option.

They are packed with antioxidants – most of which are contained in the outer layer of brown skin, so don’t remove it.

Walnuts contain antioxidants, vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and folate – they help to protect your heart health. Additionally, they support brain health and help reduce stress.

Fish

salmon is good for leptin hormoneFatty fish like salmon are known for their omega-3 goodness; these fatty acids work to reduce inflammation and can even help lower the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and heart disease.

Wild fish is generally healthier, as fish from fish farms often has high levels of PCBs and methylmercury. If you’re eating out and the menu doesn’t specify where they get their fish, simply ask.

If you aren’t much of a fish eater you can always add krill oil to your diet, it has high concentrations of omega-3.

Other Sources of Good Fats

You can also get good fats from olives, olive oil, sesame oil, sunflower seeds, tuna, tofu and flaxseed.

Low-Fat Foods

I’m NOT a fan of low-fat or fat-free foods. They’re heavily processed – the natural fats are removed, and then artificial (chemical) additives are needed to add flavor. It’s better to eat a little full-fat food and enjoy its goodness.

Conclusion

Fat can be your friend or your foe. The good fats, the ones that exist in nature as nature intended, are your friend.

Consuming the healthy fats listed above will provide you with plenty of vitamins, nutrients, and healthy fats that will keep you healthy, strong, and fit.
