Crystal the beautiful little orphaned baby black flying-fox – going ni ni’s 🙂

It was all about spreading the love on our February Batty Boat Cruise last night.

Passengers enjoyed the beautiful sights of Brisbane and some delicious nosh and drinks from the Batty Boat bar as we left the Mowbray Park Ferry Terminal at East Brisbane and made our way up the Brisbane River.

Excited children enjoyed the views from the top deck of the boat and drooled over the gorgeous wildlife souvenirs and gifts on sale at the merchandise stand onboard.

As the sun went down on a beautiful balmy evening, we arrived at the Norman Creek flying-fox camp while host Jo Towsey shared some fascinating facts about these amazing flying mammals and the vital ecological role they play as super pollinators.

We witnessed a truly amazing flying-fox fly-out over the Brisbane River. What seemed like a never-ending stream of stunning black flying-foxes against the glowing orange sky as they left the Norman Creek camp on their nightly foraging expedition.

Passengers also got to meet Crystal, an adorable 9-week-old orphaned baby black flying-fox.

Sadly, Crystal was found clinging to the front of her dead mother on a barbed wire fence in Acacia Ridge. Luckily Crystal was alive and well and the amazing Bat Conservation and Rescue QLD team are giving her wonderful care until she’s released at 15 weeks.

50% of our February Batty Boat Cruise profits will go to help Bat Conservation & Rescue QLD care for the many vulnerable flying-fox pups currently in their care.
